BBS Welcomes Geemakun Storey for Coding Session with Staff and Students! - 2017-09-27
Bishop Belleau School welcomed Moosonee born and raised Geemakun Storey this week for two after-school sessions to assist teachers in developing their coding skills. Our grades 4-8 students also welcomed Geemakun to their class on Tuesday as he spent two half days introducing our junior and intermediate students to coding and in particular, how to use Harvard University's free online coding program called SCRATCH. You can learn about Scratch here at http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/about
Geemakun has recently graduated from the Mobile Application Design & Development program at Algonquin College in Ottawa and has entered the professional world of applications and programming. Geemakun hopes to promote a love of coding among the youth in Moosonee and strongly believes a knowledge of coding is an important, if not, an essential skill for present and future employment opportunities.
We are grateful that Geemakun made some time during his brief stay in Moosonee to help BBS staff and students with some basic understanding and application of code. Our staff and students had a fun-filled learning experience! Geemakun Storey & BBS Students Photo
