Students Make Medicine Bags - 2014-04-17
Grade 3 students from Sacred Heart School made today (Thursday, April 17th 2014) medicine bags.
We invited Richard and Ryan from the MNO (Metis Nation of Ontario), to make medicine bags with the grade 3 students since we have been learning about early settlers and First Nation peoples in the early 1800's.
A medicine bag is a small pouch filled with talismans such as stones, herbs, found objects, personal memorabilia etc... and is intended to bring protection, good luck, and/or for use in healing to/by its owner.
The students had a great time. Students Make Medicine Bags Picture

Special Christmas Project Demonstrates Virtue of Charity to Students - 2013-12-27
The staff and students at Sacred Heart School undertook a special Christmas project this year. In partnership with the North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services they are going to make Christmas a little brighter for local families.
Each class at the school adopted a family for Christmas. Family profiles were provided for each class, which included lists of basic items that each of the families needed.
Through generous donations made by the Sacred Heart School family, the project was a resounding success. Ten families in the Timmins area will benefit from this project.
Students at Sacred Heart School have learned that the basic items they use every day are not always readily available to others. It is hoped that through this project, the students have developed an appreciation for what they have. The virtue of Charity was definitely lived at Sacred Heart School this month. Sacred Heart School Bullying Awareness Week Letter to Parents - 2013-11-20
This week has been designated ‘Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week’. During the week of November 18-22, Ontario students, school staff and parents are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you what we have done, and will be doing, this week to help promote a safe school and a positive learning environment.
During our Bullying Awareness and Prevention Assembly, our “Bug and a Wish” program was reviewed with all grade 1-6 students. Students were reminded to fill out a “Bug and a Wish” card should they have an issue on the schoolyard or in class that they feel needs added attention. Once cards are handed in anonymously in the “Bug and a Wish” box or handed to their teachers, they are reviewed by staff members and dealt with accordingly. Cards are kept for tracking purposes (repetitive issues, types of incidents, frequency, etc.) to help us monitor whether changes are necessary to promote a safer school and a positive environment. Sacred Heart School Students Fill the Limo for Food Bank - 2013-10-09
The students of Sacred Heart School were filled with gratitude today as they filled the limo with 1302 food items for the Timmins Food Bank. Mother Teresa once said that “It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” It’s the simple acts of kindness that speak louder than words. This is the 4th year the students “Fill the Limo” for Thanksgiving. Lisa the limo driver expressed that this was the largest amount of food we have ever collected. We are very proud of our students and hope to continue filling the limo for years to come.

Sacred Heart School Students Excel in Cross-Country! - 2013-10-07
This fall, Sacred Heart School had its best cross-country season in the last four years. This was not only in terms of runners’ individual times and strong finishes, but also in their great dedication and attendance at all practices and events. At both the Brother Roland Saumur XC Invitational at Hersey Lake, as well at the Opishing XC Meet, essentially all 40 runners who had signed up for cross-country early in September took part in the races. It was definitely wonderful to see! Their hard work and perseverance has demonstrated qualities that fit what we try to represent here at Sacred Heart School. The Sacred Heart School community is proud of all of you!
