St. Anne School Student Excels at Hockey - 2014-04-17
Chad Denault son of Doris and Jeff Denault is getting ready to lace up his skates for a trip that will be an experience of a lifetime for this young hockey player. Chad has been scouted to play on the East Coast Selects Team Ontario in Prague Czech Republic and Brastlava Slovakia from April 18-27, 2014. What an amazing opportunity for a young skilled hockey player who will be celebrating his 14 birthday on the eve of the World Selects Invitational games in Russia.
In an interview with Chad, he shared his hockey accomplishments and where it all began for this young hockey player. Chad began his hockey career at age six when he joined the Iroquois Falls Minor Hockey Association where he played his first year as a Tyke player, then played two seasons for Novice house, two seasons playing Novice Rep, followed by one year of Pee Wee league. For the first few years of his hockey seasons, Chad played the position of defence then moved onto to his current position of right winger.
In his second year of Pee Wee, young Denault tried out for the AAA Major Pee Wee team in Timmins and made the cut, and now has become a seasoned player in the AAA hockey world. At age 13, and a grade 8 student at St. Annes school, playing on a AAA team means serious commitment for a young hockey player and his family. With a busy hockey schedule consisting of two practices per week, regular work outs and games and tournaments on most weekends, along with homework, young Denault realized that finding balance with his busy schedule was important in this sport. Chad now plays for the Timmins Eagles AAA Major Bantam Team and stated that the hockey is fast tempo and a big step up from rep hockey. As part of his work out regime, Chad has been working out with Herve Leroux with focus on cardio, strengthening and improving his physical fitness. It has been a busy hockey season with season games in North Bay, Sudbury, Sault St. Marie, Nickel City and Timmins, with many tournaments in Southern Ontario. Chad has been the top 10 player in scoring in the past two seasons and has 54 GPA with 25 goals and 29 assists this season. In speaking with coach James Daschuk of the Timmins Eagles AAA Major Bantam Team, he shared that" this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and a great experience for young hockey players like Chad. " " Chad is a very mature, polite player who is a very skilled player that has good hockey sense, size and good goal scoring abilities, and benefit from this competitive hockey experience. "
Young Denault also has been playing hockey in various summer camps and was one of the players that was selected at one of the prospect tournaments for the upcoming World Selects Invitational tournament in Russia. During these prospect tournaments scouts are recruiting the top players born in the year 2000 to make up the roster for the Ontario team to compete in Russia. Chad received the news that he had been selected to play on the Ontario team end of January. When asked what his reaction was to the incredible news, Chad replied that he was surprised, but honored to have been chosen to represent Ontario at this big hockey tournament. Chad was one of the only players selected from Northern Ontario with most players chosen from Southern Ontario.
In preparation for the upcoming World Selects, Chad has been very busy training for this tournament. Chad has been working out with his uncle Paul Joseph who has been a major part of Chads hockey career. Paul also a skilled hockey player who played for the Golden Bears Junior A team is helping Chad with training as part of his preparation regime for the upcoming Russian tournament. In speaking with Chads mother Doris, she shared that part of the preparation meant getting passports and preparing for the upcoming trip. Doris shared that travelling to Europe has always been something she has wanted to do and she is looking forward to going with Chad for this tournament. Chads parents are very proud of Chad as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him.
Chad and Doris will be leaving for the tournament on April 16th, and are very happy that Chads cousin Ryan Bangs from Stitsville also has made the team and will be joining them for the tournament in Russia. Participating in the 2014-00 World Selects Invitational are 19 teams representing teams including East Coast Selects, West Coast Selects, Russia, Findland, Lativia, Sweden, Slovakia, Norway, Boston USA, Austria, Germany as well as other teams. The itinerary includes flying to Prague CZ where the team will meet and will practice for three days, to give them an opportunity to gel as a team and to prepare for the tournament. The team will then travel to Bratslava Slovakia where a minimum of five games will be played. During their travels, the players and family will take part in team dinners, tour of Prague Castle, Tour of Slovakia, WSI Opening Ceremonies and tours to various tourist attractions including museums, and historical sites.
When asked by the reporter what Chad hoped to accomplish at the Worlds Selects he shared he hopes his team can bring home the gold, but he is honored to have been selected to represent Ontario at this tournament. He is looking forward to the competitive hockey, sight seeing and the new friendships and experiences he will get while in Russia. Chad hopes one day to get drafted to the NHL, and to receive a sports scholarship, and shares that it would be an absolute honor one day to play in the NHL.
Congratulations to Chad Denault for being selected to play on the East Coast Selects Team Ontario in Prague Czech Republic and Brastlava Slovakia from April 18-27, 2014. Chad Denault's Picture

St. Anne Catholic School Honours Retiring Darlene White - 2013-11-29
Darlene’s retirement party was held last night with current and previous staff in attendance at the Country Inn. It was the very first place she came to as a new teacher. It is and was a hotel/restaurant and she stayed there to look for a place for her new job in Iroquois Falls – wondering if she would like it. After 44 years as an icon at St. Anne’s school, I guess she liked it! She retires with a 106.7 “credit years” – with teachers needing only an “85” factor. We are so blessed to have had her for all these years. Good luck and God Bless Darlene! Retiring Darlene White Picture
