OICS Fundraises to Provide Drinking Water to Village in Ethiopia
Ted Weltz, OICS Principal proudly proclaimed “I am so proud of the students at O’Gorman Intermediate Catholic School for collecting pennies and coins during our ‘Penny Fundraiser’ to be able to bring clean drinking water, one of the necessities of life, to the village of Ropi in Ethiopia. We have raised over $3,000.00 and this money will benefit the lives of an entire village. Way to go OICS!”
Last year, Michelle Lohuis, an Educational Assistant at OICS, visited the area and met up with a local priest who indicated the need for clean drinking water for the people who live in the village of Ropi. He noted the dire need for a clear water source and pointed out the condition of the river by the village that the animals will not drink from at times.

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board will be celebrating World Catholic Education Day on Thursday, May 17th, 2012. This date is important and should be celebrated as Catholic education is a very special gift. Not everyone has the freedom to experience that gift.
Glenn Sheculski, Director of Education commented, “At the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, we strive to provide the very best in Catholic Education. We endeavour to instill in our students the core values of our Catholic faith. We highlight social justice programs, community awareness and support environmental programs that respect our world, but most importantly, we share the Gospel values with our students. These core Christian values are what make the difference in our students and in our educational system.”
