If you have a question or concern about your child’s education, start by speaking with your child’s teacher. If you need more support, contact the school’s principal.
If your question or concern has not been addressed, our Student and Family Support Office can help. We can answer questions, provide information and support, and help connect you with the appropriate school board staff or services.
When you Contact our Student and Family Support Office
- We will acknowledge your inquiry within 2 business days.
- We aim to provide an answer within 5 business days.

- Your name and contact information
- Your child’s name and school
- A description of your question or concern
- Any steps you have already taken to try to resolve the issue
How the Student and Family Support Office Can Help
You may wish to contact the Student and Family Support Office when:
- A question or concern has not been resolved after speaking with school staff
- Additional guidance is needed for a complex or sensitive matter
- Support is required beyond what can be provided at the school level
- You are unsure which NCDSB department or staff member can best assist you
Our office can help connect you with the appropriate Superintendent or NCDSB department and assist with matters that may require additional follow-up.
Resolving an Inquiry or Concern
NCDSB encourages families to work through questions and concerns at the level closest to the situation whenever possible.
- Parent/Guardian or Community Concern: Begin by identifying the question or concern and connecting directly with the appropriate school staff member.
- Teacher: Discuss classroom, learning, or student-related concerns with your child’s teacher.
- Principal: If the matter cannot be resolved at the classroom level, contact the school principal for additional support.
- Superintendent: Matters requiring further assistance may be referred to the appropriate Superintendent.
- Student and Family Support Office: If additional support is still required, the Student and Family Support Office can help coordinate the appropriate next steps.
What Can We Help With?
When completing the inquiry form, select the category that best describes your question or concern:
- School-Related: Curriculum, course content, homework, assessment, student support, behaviour, safety and well-being
- Student Transportation: Bus delays, routes, bus stop locations, safety and ridership eligibility
- Facilities: Heating and cooling, cleanliness, maintenance or other facility-related concerns
- Special Education: Student supports, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), identification and placement, transition planning and related matters
- Other: Questions or concerns that do not fall within one of the categories above
Your submission will be directed to the appropriate NCDSB staff member for review and follow-up.
