Community Use of Schools

Supporting Communities Through Shared School Spaces

At the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, we believe our schools are vital parts of the communities they serve. We are committed to making our facilities and properties available, whenever possible, to support the important work of local organizations, including parish groups, recreational committees, municipal councils, and citizen-led initiatives.

Through our Community Use of Schools program, we encourage the use of school spaces for recreational, cultural, and educational activities that enrich the lives of children, families, and residents across our region. This approach reflects our dedication to stewardship, partnership, and maximizing the value of our facilities in service to our ratepayers.

NCDSB Community Use of Schools is accepting permits for the 2025/2026 school year. Most NCDSB schools are available for community use during the school year from:

  • Monday to Friday – 4:30PM to 11PM
  • Saturday to Sunday – 7AM to 11PM (caretaking cost will apply)

Schools are generally unavailable for community use from mid-June through mid-September, Election Polling dates, Winter and March Break, Statutory Holidays, long holiday weekends or P.A. Days.

The Ontario Ministry of Education provides Community Use of Schools funding. Subsidy eligibility and allocation is determined annually, based on funding availability.

Insurance

School Boards are committed to community use of schools. Obtaining individual coverage in the insurance marketplace can be cost prohibitive. In our efforts to minimize costs associated with this use, OSBIE has implemented an insurance program which allows facility users, who do not have access to an insurance program, to obtain coverage in an affordable, simple format. Please access OSBIE’s Facility User Insurance details to apply or to receive a quote.

For more information regarding the OSBIE insurance program, please contact support@instantriskcoverage.com.

Steps to Booking

Permits and bookings are made electronically through eBase, which is a software that lets you view school site availability and create and edit permits easily. Please note that proof of insurance will be required before your permit can be approved.

Step 1

Review the rules and regulations for Community Use of Schools.

Step 2

Access eBase and create a username and password to begin submitting applications directly to the school you would like to use. For support in using eBase, review the introductory video.

Step 3

Confirmation of insurance and payment will need to be received before the permit will be approved.

Step 4

Once your permit has been processed, or if we cannot grant your request, you will be notified by email.
