Embracing the Catholic Faith: A Journey of Learning and Spirit
At the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, our Catholic faith is not just a subject; it’s the very foundation of our identity and permeates every aspect of school life. We are dedicated to nurturing the spiritual growth of every student, fostering a deep understanding of our Catholic traditions, and inspiring them to live out Gospel values in their daily lives. Our faith programming is designed to create caring, inclusive, and Christ-centred learning environments where students can grow academically, spiritually, and personally.
NCDSB Pastoral Plan
Our faith journey as a school board is guided by the NCDSB Pastoral Plan – A Place Where We All Belong. Each year, specific themes from the Pastoral Plan are integrated into school activities and learning, ensuring that our entire community remains connected to our shared Catholic identity and purpose. Through this plan, we collectively strive to deepen our faith and live out its principles every day.
Celebrating Our Catholic Identity
Throughout the school year, our Catholic schools participate in Celebrating Our Catholic Identity, a vibrant program designed to deepen students’ understanding and living of our faith. Each month, our school communities will explore a specific Catholic virtue or an important aspect of the liturgical calendar.
This focused exploration allows students to make meaningful connections between their learning within the classroom and the practical application of their faith through acts of service and engagement within the larger community. It’s an ongoing journey of spiritual growth, encouraging students to embody Gospel values and truly live their Catholic identity.
Religion and Family Life Programs
Our comprehensive Religion and Family Life programs are central to our Catholic education. Through daily prayer, Gospel teachings, and active witness to our faith, our dedicated teachers create a caring community where students learn to recognize the inherent dignity of every person and are encouraged to champion social justice. These programs are designed to help students develop a strong moral compass and a deeper relationship with God and others.
Faith Support and Leadership
We are blessed to have a Pastoral Care Worker and Special Assignment Teacher within our system who provide essential spiritual leadership and support to both students and staff across the district. They play a vital role in animating our faith, offering professional development, and connecting our schools to the broader Catholic community in our local parishes and in provincial, national, and international faith organizations. These dedicated individuals help to nurture and strengthen the spiritual fabric of our school communities.
Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week is an annual, province-wide celebration in Ontario that highlights the unique identity and significant contributions of publicly funded Catholic schools. This special week provides a dedicated opportunity for students, staff, families, and the wider community to reflect on and celebrate the distinctiveness of Catholic education, which nurtures not only academic excellence but also deep faith, spiritual growth, and a strong sense of community.
Through various activities, including prayer services, charitable initiatives, and community events, Catholic Education Week underscores our commitment to fostering compassionate, responsible citizens rooted in Gospel values, while also inspiring hope, promoting justice, and encouraging a shared responsibility for creation.
The theme for 2025-2026 is Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness.
